Critical Role Campaign 4 Introduces the Warriors Group

From the very beginning of Campaign 4, fresh DM the talented storyteller has maintained audience suspense with deep backstory, a diverse cast of heroes, and a thrilling plot featuring divine entities, evil spirits, and malevolent powers increasing in influence within Dol-Makjar.

Warning: Key plot points for Episode 3 of the new season lie ahead.

The Combat-Oriented Party Unveiled

Episode 3 finished on a dramatic pause and presented the premier party of adventurers who will split off from the central cast to begin their independent quest, separate from the other two tables.

This warrior group includes Teor Pridesire (played by Travis Willingham), the nimble rogue (the talented performer), the strong-willed figure (Whitney), Wicander (Sam Riegel), and Kattigan Vale (Robbie Daymond).

The Reason for Division

With an extensive roster, it was evident from the beginning that having everyone at the same party would be unworkable.

Hence, the opening chapters of the new season serve as an Prelude, intertwining the characters’ stories before splitting into three separate parties: Warriors, Planners, and Seekers.

The Nature of the Soldiers Table

Per Brennan Lee Mulligan, the Soldiers table is for adventurers who enjoy a traditionally charged combat and conflict-driven gameplay experience where diplomatic options are rare.

At first glance, characters like the reluctant priest the cleric might look mismatched, but the developments of the third episode demonstrate why these specific adventurers are best suited for the Soldiers table.

Why They Must Go

For one thing, the team has a clear idea where to proceed after a brutal initial meeting with the antagonists.

A former ally of Thjazi—whose passing initiated the story’s plot—exploited the enemy for his own means, entering the secret base, striking the rogue, and stealing all the magical artifacts to dispose of.

The antagonist then cleared his obligations and escaped to a Halovar stronghouse in the northern region, above the city, with Cyd Pridesire pursuing him.

Personal Motivations

Additionally, each character has a individual motive to exit the urban setting:

  • The agile hero, as Thjazi’s partner and closest confidant, seeks retribution.
  • The knowledgeable figure is familiar with Timmony and warns that it is a nasty place.
  • The strong character and Wicander, having disobeyed his relatives’ demands to eliminate the target and instead freed him, have nowhere else to go.
  • But, their position as key figures in the powerful family could help the group access areas they normally couldn’t.
  • Additionally, The grateful character vowed a eternal obligation to Wicander for his salvation and will now accompany him anywhere.

Fugitives

Lastly, all of them are wanted by the authorities that govern Dol-Makjar for a multiple motives, making remaining behind too risky:

  • The agile adventurer and The character are notorious outlaws.
  • The warrior and The healer turned against the influential house and the horde of evil beings they are allied with.
  • The target is marked for death by the family.

This leaves them few options but to head to Timmony in quest for the antagonist.

Future Episodes

From the recent installment’s Cooldown, we discover that the combat party will be absent next week, leaving the other eight players to form the Seekers and Planners groups.

Fans can anticipate discovering which players will be in which group in Campaign 4’s last Overture episode, streaming live on October 24.
